2021 Provincial Championship Coaching Standards For Alternate Provincials
Note: Alternate Provincial Championships will be utilized if we still have restrictions in place due to COVID-19
If Provincial Championships go as planned there will be no changes to coaching certification requirements. However, if we must utilize our alternate COVID-19 format for Provincials, we will not require any certification other than the Respect in Sport (RiS) for all coaches on the Provincial Roster. Exception: Teams registering in a Provincial Championship category leading to a Canadian or Western Canadian Championship must meet the coaching Standards outlined in the 2021 Canadian & Western Canadian Championship Coaching Standards outlined below.
Regardless of the format we use for Provincials we will also require all teams to have one (1) coach as the same gender as the category the team is registering in.
2021 Canadian & Western Canadian Championship Coaching Standards
Head and Assistant Coaches are eligible to participate at Canadian Championships upon completion of the following:
1. Foundations of Coaching Softball – Part 1
2. Foundations of Coaching Softball – Part 2
3. Make Ethical Decisions (MED) Online Evaluation

  • All the above are available online through the Coaching Association of Canada’s ‘Locker’ which can be found at
Coaches who are Competition-Introduction Trained (with MED Evaluation) or Competition-Introduction Certified already meet eligibility requirements. All other coaches require the 3 components stated.
Coaches who do not meet these standards can still be listed on the Officials Players List (OPL) but cannot go in the Coaches box or on the field of play during the game.
Coaches are encouraged to take the Make Ethical Decisions Online Workshop (through the Coaching Association of Sask. at a coast of $50 (3.5hour clinic) before proceeding to the MED Online Evaluation. Once MED training is complete coaches have free unlimited attempts at successfully passing the Evaluation. IF coaches choose to go straight to Evaluation, there is an $85 fee with 2 attempts to successfully pass the Evaluation. If they are not successful, they will need to complete the MED training.
Softball Saskatchewan will be applying this coach certification standard for all teams attending a Canadian Championship in the 2021 season.
EXCEPTION: For the inaugural U12 Boys Western Canadians all teams will require a minimum of one (1) coach to have their Foundations of Coaching Softball (FOCS) Part 1 online training.
